Instructional Tool

One of the most powerful instructional tools that I have been using for Reading and Writing is Concept Mapping.  Concept Mapping was constructed with a pencil or marker on a paper or poster, yet it has been adapted to use in technology.  Concept Mapping provides structure and organization for the writing process and allows students to visually see how abstract ideas are interconnected.
This diagram demonstrates an easy way to create a Concept Map.

Students in any grade level could use this tool to organize and present their ideas or concepts.  Here are some examples of Concept Mapping from simple to complex:
